4 Pennies for Your Thoughts
Today, as I checked the mail, I noticed an envelope from UT’s Vol Card office. I opened it, hoping that it was some kind of statement closing my account. Needless to say it wasn’t. It was in fact a bill…
Now, since I mailed them my last check a few weeks ago, I was pretty surprised. What surprised me the most though was the amount. UT actually mailed me a bill for $.04. That’s right folks FOUR CENTS! In other words, they wasted .37 on a stamp and a least a dollar or two on the paper, printing, folding, and perforation of the bill. I haven’t even considered what it cost them to figure out that I still owed the school .04. However, what gets me is that taxpayer dollars wasted the $2.37 that it cost to mail me my bill for .04. This means that UT wasted around $2.33.
What is my next course of action? I simply refuse to waste a check and then a .37 stamp to pay this $.04. I was going to not pay it and dare them to turn me over to a collection agency. However, my boss reminded me that they’ll hold my transcripts until it’s paid. It might be a little hard to apply to grad school without my transcripts, so it looks like I’m paying it. I plan on driving up to K-town on the 20th for a PRSA meeting, so I can probably pay it then. If not, I might be appealing to some of my friends to loan me the four pennies and drop it by the Vol Card office with my Social Security number.
This proves unfortunately, that you can never escape the evil clutches of the Big Orange Screw…even after you graduate.
