What a Week!
Every once in a while, there will just be a week where everything seems to go crazy. For me, it started last Saturday.
My boss has been sick for a few weeks, so we finally made her go to the doctor last Friday. It turns out, she had pneumonia and was literally forced to stay home for several days. Ordinarily, being sick on a weekend isn’t a big deal, but we had the Charlie Brown Blockhead Party at work on Saturday. That means that Addy got to be in charge. Everything went extremely well, except for one minor detail. We were supposed to have the Snoopy-look-alike dog contest, however, no dogs showed up. Since we had several hundred dollars of prizes and a radio station doing a live remote, we threw an impromtu “Who acts the most like Snoopy” contest and pulled out Snoopy ears to make.
Monday, on my way to work, Baby decided to break down. It turns out that the needs carburetor to be rebuilt. I can’t complain. At 187,000 miles, my little car keeps on chugging. Plus a raise is about to kick in at work, so I’ll be able to pay for repairs without stressing. God always provides.
After my car broke down, we got some bad news about my grandfather, who is battling colon cancer. He had surgery on Wednesday and they found that the cancer had spread a lot further than they thought. The doctors were able to remove a lot of it, but he still has to undergo more chemo and possibly radiation. Many prayers are needed.
Friday saw another family member in the hospital. My dad had to have sugery, so I took the day off wait with mom. Thankfully, Dad’s recovering well. It’s just hard to have two family members in one week go through surgery.
However, there were some fun moments this week. Thursday, I got to attend the Annual Meeting of the Chattanooga Convention and Visitors Bureau. Despite the fact that Mayor Corker was inducted into the Hospitality Hall of Fame (I won’t elaborate other than that I’m not on the Corker-bandwagon. I campaigned for Bryant in ‘02 and will continue in the next election), the lunch was really fun. Atomic Films put together a stellar promotional video of Chattanooga to Coldplay’s “Speed of Sound.” I’m hoping to get my hands on a copy, so I’ll have it when I move away from Chatt. Overall, it was great to celebrate the accomplishments of the 21st Century Waterfront. It’s hard to believe how much we pulled off in one year. Major props to everyone involved in the hospitality and tourism market!
We also celebrated the 2nd anniversary of LTP on Thursday night. The 1st Anniversary was one of the first times I went, and this year has flown by. Dana, Adam, Joel, John, Jeremy and Beka work very hard to make this ministry run. Thanks to everyone involved!
