Introducing Edmund
Greetings blogosphere. Allow me to introduce myself. My name is Edmund, and I’m a new notebook computer that Girl from the South ordered last week.
Why Edmund? Well, it seems that my delightful owner has a habit naming electronics, plants, stuffed animals and pretty much anything else that she can get away with. She read somewhere that when you name something, you can control it. Hence Baby the Honda Accord, Hermione the schefflera, Edgar IV the old Dell desktop, Addypod the iPod and me, Edmund the new Dell laptop.
Edmund, GFTS informs me, is a classic name from British literature. Jane Austen, her favorite author, named several characters Edmund (Mansfield Park and Sense and Sensibility). Plus it’s the name of one of the children from The Chronicles of Narnia and Edmund Dantes from The Count of Monte Cristo by Alexander Dumas to name a few of her favorite books.
Given that it’s been about 1.5 hours since I was lovingly lifted out of the box and started, my life is going to be rather exciting. GFTS has already put the important things like iTunes and AIM on me that will ensure that I’m a cool PC. She also insisted on putting a picture of Clive Owen as my wallpaper. Now, he’s a fine British chap, but what is with her obsession with this one actor? My recent purchase seems to have coincided with seeing Children of Men, although Edgar informs me that he’s 3 years old and has had Clive Owen from The Driver as his wallpaper for 2.5 years. Before it was some wimpy daffodils.
I’ve also been told that I’m a key figure in GFTS’s academic success. She has to write a 75-90 page thesis within the next 4 months, and I’m necessary for researching information, storing documents and actually writing the paper. It’s exciting to think that I’ll be so important to her future! It looks like we’ll be spending many hours together in the near future. Sadly though, I was built for far more exciting things than simply using Microsoft Word. I’m hoping that GFTS decides to splurge one day soon and order the entire Adobe Creative Suite!
When Edmund gets the Adobe Creative Suite have him send a copy on down to Lollipop!
