The Light at the End of the Tunnel is Blinding Me

Filed under: Chattanooga, blog • Comments: None

Down to my final 3 weeks of grad school!

Because of that, I’m pretty busy. All of those changes that I talked about in a previous post–postpone that until the end of August.

I’m sure that there’s some awesome, relevant comm/politics news story out there to link to or highlight, but no time.

So between work, Harry Potter and grad school, posting will be light. Yes Internets, Harry Potter is more important than you.

If you’re in Tennessee, I’ll be making an appearance later this week to retrieve my car. Call me if it involves coffee, a movie, Mojo or Amigos.

Almost Finished!

Filed under: grad school, blog • Comments: None

As of 5 p.m. tonight, I’m a free woman. Well, until Monday when my online class starts. Right now, it’s 8:30 a.m., and I’ve been up since 6:30 finishing up two papers, a presentation and throwing together a proposal for an independent study friend R and I brainstormed last week.

You could feel sorry for me, but I haven’t been the most diligent student. Last night after turning my thesis in, I went out to dinner and a celebratory drink with friends. Then I proceeded home with every intention of finishing up early and getting a good night’s sleep. But no, R called and convinced me to go on a Target and Krispy Kreme run. There’s just something about end of semester stress that makes Krispy Kreme that much better. KK now offers just a cup of doughnut holes for $1.80! It’s the perfect sugar fix when you’re stressed.

Next week, I’m hoping to make some big changes here. I have a great idea for GFTS that I’m dying to start working on. Until then, check out a new blog that I’m supposed to be contributing to once I get a full night’s sleep–TechRepublican.

My Mom Has A Blog

Filed under: family from the south, blog • Comments: None

Despite being a maven, Mom from the South has never gotten into blogging. But then, according to Gladwell, mavens are experts in certain areas. She is the go-to person for discount travel. Yesterday, she found a Princess cruise to the southern Carribbean for $30. Last year, the two of us spent eight days in London for a little more than $1,000. She’s pretty amazing.

Welcome her to the blogosphere, so that she’ll stick around.

The Maven Mom Blog

Also, note that her name is officially changing from Mom from the South to Maven Mom. It just fits.

The Elevation of Blogs?

Filed under: grad school, thesis, blog • Comments: None

Lexus Nexus now seems to include bloggers in their search. It seems Wonkette is as respected as the New York Times. Not sure if that’s insulting to the MSM or blogosphere.

Also, please take my survey! I managed to reach my goal of 100 within the first day.  Since the survey is good for two more weeks, why not reach a bit higher and aim for 1,000?  Only 852 more to go.

My Apologies

Filed under: blog • Comments: None

Posting has been light of lately. My apologies if my fans are disappointed. However, everytime I’ve sat down to post, it’s been the same old stuff. “GFTS is busy with school/work/homework/thesis. Comprehensive exams bite. Home for a funeral. Not a fan of snow. Being anemic isn’t fun…blah, blah, blah.”

I don’t want to read that, so I know you don’t want to hear about the mundane details of my life. Hence the lack of blogging. However, today is dedicated to getting caught up with school work, so that I can attempt to have a fun again. I’ve also recharged my energy supplies this 3-day weekend (read: I’ve done absolutely nothing, and every moment was wonderful). As weather.com toys with me and claims that today will actually get above freezing and melt the snow/ice, I hope that my bleak winter blahs will pass and my random adventures will return.

Hey, You Out There…

Filed under: friends, blog • Comments: 2

Wow. It totally escaped my notice that it’s National De-Lurking Week, and I’ve miss almost all of it. Thanks to Mrs. M for doing some mad updates at work and keeping me up to date.

I’m sure that I have some lurkers out there. This blog is listed in enough places. However, what scares me are friends that lurk. It’s really strange when you’re sitting down with a group of friends and one, particularly odd one suddenly starts commenting on your ability to spell “geaux” and the rest of them chime in. This isn’t the first time that something like that has happened. If you read the blog and actually know me in the real world, leave a comment on occassion. Bekna and PR Jedi Master Boss this goes for the two of you as well.

December is for Anniversaries

Filed under: family from the south, blog • Comments: None

While sitting in a staff meeting today, I realized two things.

1) Today is the 26th anniversary of the parentals from the South. Happy anniversary! I’m pretty darn lucky to have parents who are happily married and have set a good example for me.

2) Last Sunday was my 3rd blogiversary. Honestly not sure what I was doing since my world was still in grad school chaos, but I missed it. It’s hard to believe that it’s been 3 years since I started this.

Blogging first came to my attention in the Fall of 2003 during a marketing class. My first reaction was that it was the dumbest thing I had ever heard. The fact that a few weeks later John Brown started a blog only confirmed my thoughts that it was silly and nerdy. (Sorry John! Now, I’ll see if you actually read this.) Of course following that, Bethany, another friend who has sadly moved to Arizona, started her own corner of the Internets, and blogging suddenly appeared cool to me. Yeah, I’m swayed by peer pressure like that.

Filed under: blog • Comments: None

I’ve decided to attempt to be cool and join the current trend in blogging. I have absolutely no idea about what it will usually be about, but it’s a great opportunity for me to enlighten others about my correct opinions and rant about the things that annoy me. I’m sure my roomie will appreciate the blog hearing about those things rather than her.
